If This Is Where You Are
Not arranged by subject, but by what brought you
Everything else on this site is filed by topic, which is useful once you know what you are looking for. Most people do not arrive that way. They arrive carrying one specific thing, and the name of the doctrine that deals with it is the last thing they would think to search for. So here are fifteen plain sentences. Find the one that is nearest to true, and start there.
Several of these are places where a page is the wrong help on its own. Nothing here replaces a doctor, a pastor, or one friend who knows the whole of it. If you are in danger tonight, put this down and telephone someone. Reading is not the next thing.
Where you are
- I am afraid I am not really saved. Greater Than Our Heart. Written for the reader the warnings keep awake. It does not soften them, and it does not tell you your fear proves anything. It shows you where Scripture tells a frightened man to look, and it is never inward.
- I have carried too much for too long and cannot start. Overwhelmed. The piece in front of your house.
- I am tired in a way sleep does not fix. Rest. Two kinds of rest, and the one the restless heart is actually aching for.
- I know I am forgiven, but I do not feel wanted. Adoption. The gospel does not stop at pardoning offenders. It makes them family.
- There is someone I cannot forgive. The Word He Used Only Once. A woman weeping at a dinner party, a servant taken by the throat, and who those severe verses were aimed at.
- I have done something I cannot undo. Repentance. Not grovelling. A change of mind and direction, and the door the good news comes through.
- Our child died before he was old enough to understand. What About the Children? What Scripture says, and what it carefully does not say.
- My mother does not know me any more. When the Mind Goes. Dementia, judgment, and the one inference we are not allowed to make.
- My mind is not well, and I do not know what that means about my faith. The Noonday Demon. Melancholy, mania, and what the church has called them across sixteen centuries.
- I am sick, and people keep telling me I lack faith. Is Any Sick Among You? James 5 read whole, and the four texts that will not let it become a guarantee.
- My marriage is in trouble. Marriage, and the Love That Fulfills the Law. What keeps it, what quietly corrodes it, and why no sin is ever only your own.
- I drink more than I should. The Idea of It. Why one man stopped, which was not when he wanted to and was not because the wine was wrong.
- The same thing from years ago keeps happening again. The Past in the Present. Three answers the world gives, what is true in each, and where each one fails.
- God seems absent and I am in the dark. Suffering. The question God answers, in the end, with Himself.
- I am frightened about how the world ends. Hope. Not wishful thinking, but an anchor that holds.
If none of those is it
Then the ordinary doors are better. Every letter on the site is listed A to Z with the section it belongs to, the search will find a phrase, and The Heart of It is the short account of what all of this is for. If you want the whole thing as one narrative rather than as letters, that is The Story.
One thing about all of them
None of these pages is a technique, and none of them ends where it started. They are letters about a Person, written by somebody who needed them first. If a page here helps, it will be because it got you to Him and then got out of the way.
Every page linked above is on this site. The list is deliberately short; it is a door, not an index. The full index is at every letter, A to Z.
